Softball Game Preview: Tolono Unity Rockets vs. Maroa-Forsyth Trojans

The Tolono Unity Rockets will head out on the road to face off against the Maroa-Forsyth Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Tolono Unity is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.

Tolono Unity proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 14) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Newton, sneaking past 2-0.

Lindy Bates was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenley Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Maroa-Forsyth fell victim to Meridian and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 6-0 to the Hawks.

Tolono Unity pushed their record up to 26-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Maroa-Forsyth, their loss dropped their record down to 12-12.

Everything went Tolono Unity's way against Maroa-Forsyth in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Tolono Unity made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
