Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hononegah). They put the hurt on the Guilford Vikings with a sharp 18-0 win on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Indians sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Emma Tapia looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hononegah let Peyton Klikno and Aislyn Palmer run wild. Klikno got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Palmer got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave Palmer a new career-high. Stella Leopold also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Hononegah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .889. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hononegah's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Guilford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season.
