Baseball Game Preview: Westlake Demons vs. Normandy Invaders

The Westlake Demons will face off against the Normandy Invaders at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Westlake's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Normandy has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

On Monday, Westlake didn't have quite enough to beat Buckeye and fell 5-4.

Blake Jensen was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Sean Brouillard made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Ethan Thompson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Lakewood hit Normandy with a four-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Invaders came up short against the Rangers, falling 10-4.

Normandy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Hinkle, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Westlake's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for Normandy, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Westlake has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .500. However, it's not like Normandy struggles in that department as they've averaged .467. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
