Basketball Recap: Riverview Falls Despite Big Games from Averi Westbay and Caiya Hunter

Riverview lost against St. Mary Catholic Central back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Riverview Pirates took a 40-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Mary Catholic Central Falcons/Kestrels. The game marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Riverview's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Caiya Hunter, who posted nine points and eight steals, and Averi Westbay, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards. Those eight steals gave Hunter a new career-high. Gracie Urista was another key player, putting up four points.

Riverview has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. As for St. Mary Catholic Central, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.

Riverview and St. Mary Catholic Central should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. Riverview (ranked 121st) will meet Grosse Ile (ranked 405th) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, St. Mary Catholic Central will square off against Flat Rock at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday up 106 places (19 vs. 125).
