Softball Recap: Minnewaska Area Wins Going Away Against Montevideo

Minnewaska Area won the last time they faced Montevideo and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Lakers were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Thunderhawks. The result was nothing new for the Lakers, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Norah Vanzee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Avery Lewison, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Poegel, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Minnewaska Area pushed their record up to 6-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Montevideo, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Minnewaska Area will challenge rival Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Montevideo is set to face off against their familiar foe Sauk Centre at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
