Basketball Recap: Coeur D'alene Falls Short Against Ranked Sierra Canyon

Coeur d'Alene is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Sierra Canyon. The Coeur d'Alene Vikings fell 69-56 to the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers. The Vikings were probably out for revenge after losing 73-47 to them when the teams met back in December of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Coeur d'Alene saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brookeslee Colvin posted 31 points and three steals. That was a full 55.4% of Coeur d'Alene's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Karisa Wallis, who earned nine points along with five boards and five blocks.

Coeur d'Alene has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Sierra Canyon, the win keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Coeur d'Alene will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Timberlake at 1:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Sierra Canyon, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-47 victory against Democracy Prep Agassi Campus on the 21st.
