Baseball Game Preview: Yerington Lions vs. Oasis Academy Bighorns

For the second straight game, Yerington will face off against Oasis Academy. The Lions will welcome the Bighorns at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Yerington 2.4, Oasis Academy 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Yerington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Oasis Academy, who was ranked 21st at the time (Yerington was ranked 12th). The Lions' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bighorns a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Valor Angle, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Oasis Academy off the board. Angle has been consistent : he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alexis Martinez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Nolan Landa was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

The win was the fourth in a row for Yerington, bringing their record up to 12-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Oasis Academy, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Yerington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Oasis Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts.
