Basketball Recap: Cannon Falls Despite Big Games from Sean Nix and DJ Rogers + How To Watch

Cannon extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They took a 63-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gaston Day Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 98-85 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Cannon had strong showings from DJ Rogers, who shot 47% from the field en route to 20 points and six rebounds, and Sean Nix, who posted 22 points and six boards.

As for Gaston Day, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points over those games.

Griffen Simpson had an outrageously good game as he dropped a double-double with 17 points and 14 boards. Those 14 rebounds gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dyson Britt, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 13 points and three steals.

Cannon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 80-72 loss against Charlotte Catholic on the 18th. As for Gaston Day, they have also already played their next contest, a 63-56 win against Carmel Christian on the 18th.
