League recap: Heppner extends winning streak with victory over Grant Union

2A Blue Mountain recap October 22, 2013

Adding to the longest winning streak in 2A Blue Mountain this week, Heppner beat Grant Union 20-14. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.

Enterprise led the league in scoring this week after putting up 68 points on Pilot Rock/Nixyaawii Community. Kyle Roepke threw for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win.

Kaden Clark provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Heppner bested the Prospectors. He completed 15 passes for 159 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 23 yards. Clark's key target this week was Jesse Corbin, who caught 2 passes for 52 yards.

Roepke and Will McCadden gave the Outlaws a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Issac Rowley also contributed to the rushing game with 119 yards on the ground.

Heppner's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Mustangs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Clark has thrown for 1,093 yards and 15 touchdowns this season, while Jordan Bailey has 23 catches for 283 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Stanfield takes on Grant Union. The Tigers are in third place, while Jason Miller's team is in second place.

Greg Grant's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,929 from 5,729. The advance stemmed from a 20-14 victory over the Prospectors last week.
