Softball Recap: Heritage Beats South-Doyle for Their Third Straight Win

Heritage waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over the South-Doyle Cherokees. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 12-0 victory on Monday.

South-Doyle's batters probably weren't too happy with Elishia Byrd, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (she gave up a single walk). Byrd has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Heritage's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Rachel Hayes, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Hayes has posted since back in March.

Heritage hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive contests.

Heritage's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for South-Doyle, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.

Heritage does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South-Doyle, they will face off against Knoxville Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cherokees' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Fighting Irish have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
