Basketball Recap: JJ Tatum's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mcmichael over Morehead

McMichael lost against Morehead last Saturday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The McMichael Phoenix lost to the Morehead Panthers at home by a 59-44 margin.

McMichael's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JJ Tatum, who posted 14 points and three steals. Tatum has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Williamson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Morehead got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Avery Bigelow out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Josiah Thomas was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

McMichael has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Morehead, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-11.

McMichael and Morehead could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. McMichael (ranked 490th) will meet Walkertown (ranked 213th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Morehead will challenge T.W. Andrews at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 198 places (386 vs. 188).
