Basketball Recap: Hampton Comes Up Short

Hampton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were dealt a 72-28 defeat at the hands of the Cross County Cougars. The Hawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-11.

Cross County was led to victory by Wyatt Hengelfelt and Brock Allen. Hengelfelt went 8 for 13 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds, while Allen posted ten points and eight boards. Hengelfelt continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Langdon Arbuck, who earned ten points.

Hampton's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Cross County, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-2.

Hampton will face off against Twin River at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Twin River is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season. As for Cross County, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Nebraska Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th.
