Baseball Game Preview: Wylie Bulldogs vs. Abilene Eagles

Wylie has gone 8-2 against Abilene recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Wylie is taking a road trip to take on Abilene at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Wylie took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They blew past Legacy 13-3. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Colby Garrett made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Dylan Regala and Ty Briscoe did most of the damage at the plate: Regala went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Briscoe scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave Regala a new career-high. Jace Tomlin was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Wylie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Legacy only posted an OBP of .367.

Meanwhile, Abilene never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on Legacy with a sharp 14-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Wylie is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. Abilene's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7-1.

Wylie took their win against Abilene in their previous meeting on March 13th by a conclusive 15-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wylie since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
