League recap: Vicksburg scores huge upset over Germantown

5A Region 2 recap October 8, 2013

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Vicksburg, who defeated 35th ranked Germantown, 25-21. Kedarian Wells during the win.

Callaway extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 2 this week by beating Neshoba Central, 47-16. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Chargers.

TJ Washington provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Callaway bested the Rockets. He completed 12 passes for 218 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 30 yards. Washington's favorite target this week was Joshua Early, who caught 3 passes for 110 yards.

Ledarius Carpenter threw for 202 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Carpenter put up the best numbers through the air as Pearl beat Canton. Carpenter's favorite target this week was Sheamus Tucker, who caught 4 passes for 71 yards.

Pearl's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Pirates feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Carpenter has thrown for 1,315 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Demorrious Brown has 32 catches for 728 yards.

The Pirates' Jordan Wright needs only 93 yards against the Mavericks next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Wright has rushed for 907 yards on 158 carries so far this year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Germantown takes on Pearl. As it stands, Tim Shramek's team is in fifth, while John Perry's team is in second.

Ridgeland took down Lanier 62-22 last week, the largest margin of any game. Parker Lohman threw for 72 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 36 yards in the win.
