Volleyball Preview: Petal Panthers vs. Ocean Springs Greyhounds
Petal is 0-4 against Ocean Springs since August of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Panthers will face off against the Greyhounds at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Petal comes in on five and Ocean Springs on 11.
Petal can't be too worried about heading out to take on Ocean Springs: they just beat Sacred Heart at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. The Panthers walked away with a 3-1 win over the Crusaders last Thursday.
Petal was dominant in they sets they won, taking each by at least 25 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-0, 25-0, 0-25, 25-0.
Meanwhile, Ocean Springs is ranked highly in their home state and on Thursday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Mobile Christian. The Greyhounds put the hurt on the Leopards with a sharp 3-0 victory.
The win didn't come easy: Mobile Christian scored at least 20 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 27-25, 25-23.
Ocean Springs found their leader in sophomore Alden St. Amant, who had 19 digs and two assists. St. Amant is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last three games she's played. Lucy Longo also deserves some recognition as she had her first dig of the season.
Petal's record now sits at 17-12. As for Ocean Springs, their record is now 36-5.
Petal suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Ocean Springs in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
