The Graford Rabbits will challenge the Santo Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Graford fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Lipan on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 11-10. That's two games in a row now that the Rabbits have lost by just one run.
Faith Perry and Lilly Ruddy did some serious damage despite the final result: Perry scored three runs and stole a base while going 5-for-5, while Ruddy went 4-for-5 with five RBI. Savahannah Martin was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Santo, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against De Leon by a score of 16-13 on Tuesday.
Santo got a massive performance out of Myranda Cain, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Cain a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brailee Hall, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.
Santo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
This is the second loss in a row for Graford and nudges their season record down to 6-8. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Santo, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 7-9.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Graford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .429. However, it's not like Santo struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Graford's way against Santo in their previous meeting last Tuesday, as Graford made off with a 17-7 victory. Do the Rabbits have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
