Volleyball Recap: Widefield Comes Up Short

Widefield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Palmer Terrors, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Terrors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 on October 7th.

While Widefield was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the third set. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-10, 25-23.

Katie Walderon paced Widefield's offense, picking up nine kills. Walderon got some help from Leila Brown and her 12 assists. Finally, Walderon was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Palmer was led to victory by Audrenna Gemmeke-Hall and Taytum Soppe-Cope. Gemmeke-Hall had eight digs and seven aces, while Soppe-Cope had 11 digs and two assists. Those seven aces gave Gemmeke-Hall a new career-high.

Widefield's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Palmer, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Widefield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Mesa Ridge on the 28th. As for Palmer, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Canon City on the 28th.
