Shining Light Academy waltzed into their contest on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the South Guilford HomeSchool Cougars by a score of 63-51. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while the Cougars are ranked 387th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, South Guilford HomeSchool still got an impressive performance from Nate Martin, who dropped a double-double with 31 points and 12 boards. That was a full 60.8% of the Cougars' points, marking the fourth time in a row Martin has posted more than a third of the team's points. Brian Beirne was another key player, putting up seven points.

Shining Light Academy's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for South Guilford HomeSchool, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-11.

Looking ahead, Shining Light Academy will take on Phoenix Academy in a tournament on the 29th. The Knights will need to watch out since the Firebirds have now posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups. As for South Guilford HomeSchool, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Legacy Athletics at 8:00 p.m. on January 5, 2026.
