Softball Recap: Neoga Indians vs. Cumberland Pirates
Neoga had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-11 to make it 12. They lost 13-0 to the Cumberland Pirates. The Indians were not able to make up for their defeat to the Pirates from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
Neoga saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josalyn Brandenburg, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Katelynn Gollihar also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for Cumberland, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-10 record this season. Considering they have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Cumberland's side, Mia Holsapple was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Holsapple was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Cumberland got a massive performance out of Noraa Cross, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Cross has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jude Miller, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Coming up, Neoga will be playing in front of their home fans against Altamont at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Cumberland, they will head out on the road to face off against Argenta-Oreana at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bombers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
