Recap: Downey Vikings vs. Mayfair Monsoons
The Downey Vikings won the last time they faced the Mayfair Monsoons, and things went their way on Friday too. Downey really took it to Mayfair for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-14 win on the road. The result was nothing new for Downey, who have now won five matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Downey was led to victory by Victor Morales and Oscar Rios. Morales rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, while Rios threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. Aidan Gomez got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Downey's win was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.9 points per game. As for Mayfair, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Downey will take on La Mirada at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. La Mirada will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 307th, while Downey is ranked 98th). As for Mayfair, they will be playing at home against Norwalk at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Norwalk is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
