Softball Recap: Pomona Comes Up Short

Pomona easily dispatched Bassett last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Pomona fell just short of the La Puente Warriors by a score of 13-11 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-7 two weeks ago.

Vanessa Hernandez and Mayrin Hernandez-Linares did some serious damage despite the final result: Hernandez scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Hernandez-Linares went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. The dominant performance also gave Hernandez a new career-high in hits (two). Layla Carmargo also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Pomona's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for La Puente, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pomona will host Edgewood at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for La Puente, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Workman at 3:30 p.m. Workman has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.25 runs per game on average), something La Puente will no doubt try to take advantage of.
