Joey Wade made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of The O'Neal School's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-7-1 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, The O'Neal School got a massive performance out of Andrew Pavlovich, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Pavlovich has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Pashley, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
The O'Neal School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Village Christian Academy sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Seventy-First on Monday.
Like The O'Neal School, Village Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Sean Nicely. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Nicely has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Nicely wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Snyder, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Lucas Molina also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
The O'Neal School's record is now 5-7-1. As for Village Christian Academy, their record now sits at 14-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. The O'Neal School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Village Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
The O'Neal School might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Village Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
