Mt. Vernon faced Hayes in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets walked away with a 5-1 win over the Pacers. The victory was familiar territory for the Yellowjackets, who have now won 14 contests in a row.

Miranda Oswalt looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brooke Dovenbarger, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Mt. Vernon's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Hayes, they moved to 23-2 with that loss, which also ended their 21-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Mt. Vernon will take on Granville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hayes, they will face off against Westland at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
