Softball Recap: James Logan Comes Up Short

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when James Logan and Newark Memorial meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Colts fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 8-6. The Colts were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 7-2.

Janessa Parras and Nevaeh Hall-Flores did some serious damage despite the final result: Parras went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Hall-Flores went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Medellin, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

James Logan's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 13-5-1. As for Newark Memorial, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. James Logan will challenge California at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Colts 3.8, the Grizzlies 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Newark Memorial, they will host American at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
