Wakefield posted their closest win since October 3, 2024 on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wake Forest Cougars, sneaking past 3-2. For the Wolverines, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Wakefield had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-23, 15-8.

Lila Piburn paced Wakefield's offense, picking up 12 kills. Piburn got some help from Gigi Ugur and her 17 assists. Finally, Piburn was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

The win made it two in a row for Wakefield and bumps their season record up to 2-1. As for Wake Forest, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Wakefield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Falls Lake on the 20th. As for Wake Forest, they will head out to square off against Sanderson at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
