Baseball Game Preview: Bexley Lions vs. Bishop Ready Silver Knights

The Bexley Lions will head out to take on the Bishop Ready Silver Knights at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Bexley proved they can win big on Monday (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Whetstone.

Meanwhile, Bishop Ready entered their tilt with Whitehall-Yearling on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 13-5 win. Considering the Silver Knights have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jacob Cheatham made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Bishop Ready: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lincoln Miller, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Kasen Abbott also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Bexley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Bishop Ready, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Bexley was able to grind out a solid win over Bishop Ready in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
