Softball Recap: California Has No Trouble Against Clayton Valley Charter

After only one run in their last match, California made sure to put some runs up on the board against Clayton Valley Charter on Thursday. California was the clear victor by a 12-5 margin over Clayton Valley Charter. With that win, the Grizzlies brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

California got a great performance from Audrey Cotton as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. Cotton has been consistent : she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alina Curiel, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Jayda Crosby was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

California was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clayton Valley Charter only posted a batting average of .240.

California is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. Clayton Valley Charter's record is now 4-2-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. California will challenge Alameda at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Alameda has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Clayton Valley Charter, they will square off against Vacaville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
