Softball Recap: The Villages Charter Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lake Weir last Tuesday, The Villages Charter came back down to earth. The Buffalo fell 6-2 to the Foundation Academy Lions on Thursday.

Haylee Nobles was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero).

On the hitting side, Elaina Gonzalez was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Payton West was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

The Villages Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Foundation Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. The Villages Charter will head out to square off against Nature Coast Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Buffalo's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sharks have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Foundation Academy, they will face off against Umatilla at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.07 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
