Baseball Recap: George Rogers Clark Drops Highest Score of Season Against Bishop Brossart

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask George Rogers Clark). They put the hurt on the Bishop Brossart Mustangs with a sharp 17-6 victory on Saturday. Considering the Cardinals have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Carson Watkins looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, George Rogers Clark got a massive performance out of Najee Harris, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave Harris a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abe Mullins, who went 4-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

George Rogers Clark was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Brossart only posted a batting average of .308.

George Rogers Clark has been performing well recently as they've won 15 of their last 20 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Brossart, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-12.

Coming up, George Rogers Clark is taking a road trip to square off against Bryan Station at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Cardinals are facing the Defenders at the right time seeing as the Defenders are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
