Softball Game Preview: Evergreen Plainsmen vs. Camas Papermakers

The Evergreen Plainsmen will face off against the Camas Papermakers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Evergreen has now lost seven straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 29th.

Evergreen fell victim to Battle Ground and their airtight pitching crew back in March. They lost 15-0 to the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Camas hadn't done well against Kelso recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Papermakers had just enough and edged out the Hilanders 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Papermakers have posted since April 10, 2024.

Ainsley Schweitzer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Gracelyn Johnson was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Keegan Kirkwood was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Camas kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Evergreen's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Camas, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Evergreen came up short against Camas in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Plainsmen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
