Softball Game Preview: Ganesha Giants vs. Edgewood Lions

After both having extra time off, the Ganesha Giants and the Edgewood Lions will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ganesha has nine straight wins, Edgewood has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Edgewood's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Ganesha hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. Everything went the Giants' way against Bassett last Thursday as they made off with a 16-0 victory. Considering the Giants have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kalena Lemus tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Ganesha let Hollynn Gentry and Jazmine Mikel run wild. Gentry got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four RBI, while Mikel went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Gentry a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anabelle Gonzalez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Ganesha hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Edgewood duked it out with Diamond Ranch last Friday. The Lions lost 17-1 to the Panthers.

Ganesha pushed their record up to 12-4-1 with the win, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 18.1 runs this season. As for Edgewood, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Ganesha took their win against Edgewood in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 22-0 score. Do the Giants have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
