Softball Recap: St. Margaret's Takes a Loss

St. Margaret had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-2 to make it eight. They lost 25-0 to the Trinity Episcopal Titans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Scotties of the 11-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Trinity Episcopal, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Trinity Episcopal's part, Brooke Shelton and Cooper Beatty were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Shelton struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Beatty tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Shelton went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and two stolen bases, while Beatty went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Shelton also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Magovern Rollins was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. That home run was her first of the season. Cabel Berkeyheiser was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Margaret's will head out to square off against Miller School of Albemarle at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mavericks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.25 runs per game on average), something the Scotties will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Trinity Episcopal, they will venture away from home to challenge St. Catherine's at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
