Softball Recap: Fremont Firebirds vs. Wilcox Chargers

Fremont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of the Wilcox Chargers by a score of 7-6. That's two games in a row now that Fremont has lost by just one run.

Jiyah Caban put in work no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). Caban was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Alexia Sanchez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with a triple, a run, and a double. Another player making a difference was Kira Adams, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Fremont didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with eight strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.

On Wilcox's side, Tyler Scott was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Melody Bouldt, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.

Fremont has fallen quite a ways from their 14-6 record last season and are now at 2-5. As for Wilcox, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-9.

Fremont will take on Los Altos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Wilcox, they will head out on the road to challenge Milpitas at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Milpitas' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Wilcox's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
