Baseball Recap: Etna Has No Trouble Against Maxwell

Etna barely beat Maxwell the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Etna blew past Maxwell 8-1 on Friday. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.

Emmett Stacher made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Etna's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Kyle Fowle was a standout: he scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Noah Hubbard was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Etna hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Etna has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Maxwell fell to 6-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Etna beat Maxwell by a score of 3-0 later that day.
