Weed is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Modoc is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Weed Cougars will host the Modoc Braves at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Weed knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Modoc likes a good challenge.
It was a proper cat-fight when Weed duked it out withEtna on Tuesday. Weed breezed by Etna to the tune of 67-40. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 368th, while the Lions are ranked 1113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jaxon King was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 boards. Maddox Mize was another key player, putting up nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Weed smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Modoc was able to grind out a solid victory over Trinity on Friday, taking the game 53-46.
Weed better keep an eye on Adin Benson. He was instrumental in Modoc's win, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Guasp, who posted nine points.
Weed is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.9 points per game. As for Modoc, their win bumped their record up to 13-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Weed has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 37.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Modoc struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Weed strolled past Modoc in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a score of 81-62. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Modoc's Nate Gallardo, who went 8 for 16 en route to 22 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Weed still be able to contain Gallardo? There's only one way to find out.
