Baseball Recap: Pioneer Extends Winning Streak to Three

Pioneer waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Culver Community Cavaliers 19-6. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Dawson Eggers and Lane Weldy were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Eggers didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Weldy tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Eggers a new career-high. At the plate, Eggers scored two runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Weldy scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those stolen bases marked the first that Weldy snagged this season.

In other batting news, Eli Guffey was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. Guffey is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Blake Rogers also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Pioneer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .306 or higher in three consecutive games.

Pioneer's record is now 3-1. As for Culver Community, their defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Pioneer has already played their next match, a 7-6 loss against North Miami on the 14th. As for Culver Community, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 11-0 defeat against Tri-Township on the 12th.
