Baseball Recap: Southmont's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Southmont lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lebanon, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's match. The Mounties were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Tigers on Thursday. The Mounties' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

Phisher Benge made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. Benge was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

Benge wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gunnar Shirk, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Shirk a new career-high.

Southmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

With the win, Southmont broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-14. As for Lebanon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season.

Southmont will venture away from home to face off against Attica at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mounties are facing the Red Ramblers at the right time seeing as the Red Ramblers are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Lebanon, they will square off against McCutcheon at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
