            Basketball Recap: Centennial Hawks vs. Alamogordo Tigers        
        
		
        
        
            Centennial posted their biggest  win since December 6, 2024 on Monday. Everything went their way against the Alamogordo Tigers as the Centennial Hawks made off with  a  59-36 victory. Given the Hawks' advantage  in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings  (they are ranked 34th, while the Tigers are ranked 88th), the result  wasn't entirely unexpected.
Centennial found their leader in freshman  Carli Nunez, who  went 7 for 11  on her way to 15 points and five  steals.  Avellana Vigil-Villalobos was another key player,  putting up seven  points.
 Centennial was working as a unit and  finished the game with 18  assists. That's the most  assists they've managed all season.
  Teeya Gordon and  Addyson Gonzalez certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss.  Gordon  dropped  a double-double on 16 points and 13  rebounds, while  Gonzalez  went 5 of 6  en route to 16  points and six  boards. That was a full 44.4% of Alamogordo's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's   posted  more than a third of the team's points.  Kylie Beach also deserves some recognition as  she  grabbed her first  steal of the season.

The  win was  the fourth in a row for Centennial, bringing their record for this year to 6-10. As for Alamogordo, their loss dropped their record down to 3-14.
 Centennial is taking a road trip to  face off against Mayfield  at 7:00  p.m.  on Thursday. Mayfield is on a three-game streak of home wins, Centennial a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Alamogordo, they will challenge Organ Mountain at 7:30  p.m.  on Thursday. Organ Mountain has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
