Preview: Economedes Jaguars vs. Edinburg Bobcats
The Economedes Jaguars will head out on the road to challenge the Edinburg Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Economedes has now lost ten straight, leaving the team is hunting for their first win since January 2.
Economedes' game on Friday was all tied up 22-22 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo.
Economedes might have lost, but man, Alexandro Zurita was a machine: he scored 17 points along with six rebounds. It was the first time this season that Zurita scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Enriquez, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Edinburg strolled past Pharr-San Juan-Alamo with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 58-41. Given Edinburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 584th, while Pharr-San Juan-Alamo is ranked 1383rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Economedes' loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 12-20. As for Edinburg, their victory bumped their record up to 18-11.
Economedes was dealt a bruising 71-43 loss at the hands of Edinburg in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Edinburg's Axel Navarro, who scored 22 points along with four steals. Now that Economedes knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
