Softball Recap: Eastern Greene Has No Trouble Against Dugger Union

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Shakamak, Eastern Greene was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They blew past the Dugger Union Bulldogs 14-3. The Thunderbirds not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 10th (when they won 19-2).

Charley Paurazas made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Grace Deckard was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four runs and one triple. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Ashlynn Bellman was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Eastern Greene always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Eastern Greene's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-8. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Dugger Union, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season.

Eastern Greene will head out to challenge North Central at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Eastern Greene is facing North Central at the right time seeing as North Central is stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for Dugger Union, they will square off against White River Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
