Basketball Game Preview: Covenant Christian Warriors vs. Monrovia Bulldogs

The Covenant Christian Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Monrovia Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Covenant Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.

Covenant Christian fought the good fight in their overtime contest against University on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Trailblazers 79-75. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Covenant Christian got top-tier performance from Isaac Crane, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 18 rebounds. Crane's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Midla, who posted 12 points.

Meanwhile, Monrovia was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 74-60 bruising from Mooresville. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 356th, while the Pioneers are ranked 109th).

Covenant Christian will have to contain Hayden Mccloud as he made an impact in Monrovia's last game. He went 7 of 14 on his way to 21 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. That's the most assists Mccloud has posted since back in January of 2024. Parker Hale also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Covenant Christian's record now sits at 8-3. As for Monrovia, their record is now 3-6.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Covenant Christian has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 28.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Monrovia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Covenant Christian came up short against Monrovia in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, falling 71-62. Can Covenant Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
