Baseball Recap: Rodriguez Sets Scoring Season-High Against Sacramento

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rodriguez). They were the clear victor by a 27-0 margin over the Sacramento Dragons on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won four in a row.

Carson Thompson tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sean O'Connell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Rodriguez: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Drew Beasley was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Rodriguez hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sacramento struck out 11 times.

Rodriguez now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Sacramento, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.

Coming up, Rodriguez will be playing at home against Sheldon at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Sheldon's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Rodriguez's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Sacramento, they will venture away from home to square off against Mesa Verde at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Sacramento has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
