Softball Game Preview: Pulaski County Cougars vs. Lord Botetourt Cavaliers

The Pulaski County Cougars will head out to face off against the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Pulaski County barely beat Patrick Henry the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 21-3 margin over the Patriots on Tuesday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.

Sophia Hall made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Hall was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Pulaski County let Emma Nester and Victoria Hale run wild. Nester went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Hale went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Hale a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madolyn Legg, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lord Botetourt). They put the hurt on William Byrd with a sharp 19-7 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Terriers: they've now won three in a row.

Pulaski County's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-4. As for Lord Botetourt, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Pulaski County was able to grind out a solid win over Lord Botetourt when the teams last played on Thursday, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
