Basketball Recap: Arapahoe Comes Up Short

Arapahoe was the 46-40 winner over Mullen when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Arapahoe Warriors fell 54-47 to the Mullen Mustangs on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why Arapahoe lost, don't look at Gianna Smith. Despite the final result, she went 9-for-15 en route to 26 points and five boards. The match was Smith's seventh in a row with at least 23 points. Another player making a difference was Jaya White, who posted ten points.

Leading Mullen to victory were Makenzie Jones and Tatum Jones. Makenzie went 6-for-13 to rack up 19 points and eight rebounds, while Tatum went 6-for-11 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. That's the most points Tatum has posted since back in December of 2024. Chloe Pelster was another key player, putting up eight points.

Arapahoe has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season. As for Mullen, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-8.

Arapahoe wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 72-34 defeat against Valor Christian on the 17th. As for Mullen, they will head out to challenge Grandview at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Grandview will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Mullen surely won't give up without a fight.
