Baseball Recap: Canterbury Takes Down Northside Christian in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Canterbury walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Northside Christian Mustangs on Monday as they made off with a 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Anthony Meady made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Keifer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Anthony Tenuto was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Canterbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northside Christian only posted an OBP of .321.

Canterbury is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Northside Christian, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-9.

Canterbury will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mustangs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
