Mira Costa had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the St. Francis Golden Knights 45-19 on Friday. The Mustangs pushed the score to 45-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Golden Knights cut but never quite recovered from.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Kingston Davies and AJ McBean. Davies gained 184 total yards and four touchdowns while McBean rushed for 185 yards and two TDs on only 14 carries.incredibly, Davies got all that yardage with just one huge run Liam Meeker was another key player, throwing for 156 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes.

One reason for the win was Mira Costa's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Luke Meeker was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three himself. Davies got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

St. Francis' defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mira Costa will venture away from home to take on Redondo Union at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Francis, they will head out to square off against Notre Dame (SO) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
