Plainfield is 1-9 against Avon since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Quakers will head out on the road to take on the Orioles at 6:00 p.m. Plainfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Plainfield made easy work of Whiteland and carried off a 12-1 win. The Quakers haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Sidney Parks tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kenzi Arnett was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kami Arnett, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, Avon suffered their closest loss since April 18, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Franklin Central by a score of 4-2. The Orioles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Addie Forst spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Avon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marlee Shisler, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Shisler hit this season.
Avon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Plainfield, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Plainfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Avon struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Plainfield suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Avon in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Quakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
