Basketball Recap: South Delta Drops Season-High Score on West Tallahatchie

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Delta). They managed a 67-62 victory over the West Tallahatchie Choctaws on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Bulldogs who have now won three contests in a row.

South Delta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amarion Sanders led the charge by going 5 of 9 on his way to 21 points and eight assists. Sanders' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Stamps, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 17 points along with seven assists and seven boards.

Sanders wasn't the only one working in the assists department: South Delta was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Several Choctaws players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Althaveon Hoskins, who went 6 of 7 en route to 13 points along with seven boards and three steals. Hoskins has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Roosevelt Phillips, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

South Delta pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for West Tallahatchie, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-10.

South Delta will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Simmons at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. West Tallahatchie also won't see the court for a while: their next match is against Leland at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
