Softball Recap: Hartsville Red Foxes vs. James Island Trojans

With a playoff game on the line, Hartsville rose to the challenge on Saturday. They blew past the James Island Trojans 14-2. The result was nothing new for Hartsville, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Hartsville got a great performance from Elena Mathys as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Mathys has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Aliyah Smith was incredible, going 4-for-4 with a home run, six RBI, and four runs. Another player making a difference was Myah Harvey, who went 4-for-5 with three doubles, four RBI, and a run.

On James Island's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rachel Manchester, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Hartsville, bringing their record for this year to 13-6. As for James Island, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-7.
