Preview: Pleasant Grove Hawks vs. Rusk Eagles
The Pleasant Grove Hawks will be playing at home against the Rusk Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Pleasant Grove comes in on ten and Rusk on three.
Pleasant Grove can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They blew past Spring Hill, posting a 70-30 win at home. Given Pleasant Grove's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Spring Hill is ranked 549th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Rusk beat Canton 21-13 on Friday.
Rusk's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bricion Griffin, who rushed for 149 yards, and also picked up 48 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Barrier, who threw for 79 yards and two touchdowns.
Pleasant Grove has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 10-0 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-9 Pittsburg and 2-8 Memorial (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.1% over those games). As for Rusk, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Pleasant Grove beat Rusk 26-14 when the teams last played back in November of 2016. Does Pleasant Grove have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rusk turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
